BEHIND THE DESIGN: BATTLEFIELDS OF THE AMERICAN REVOLUTION
(U.S. Postal Service, 2025)

The Battlefields of the American Revolution stamps were four years in the making. I had the honor of being the researcher who worked with several historians of colonial-era material culture to make sure the art was accurate in every detail, from the buttons on British uniforms to the gravel causeways at the Old North Bridge.

After watching with admiration as Greg Harlin researched and completed his five meticulous watercolor illustrations, I was asked to document his creative process in a 60-page book. Featuring an interview with the artist as well as commentary from art director Derry Noyes, the book is the only place to see the concept drawings and fully annotated sketches for these stamps. It's a rare behind-the-scenes look at how a masterful illustrator refines his work, and it showcases just how much thought goes into stamp design.

The Behind the Design book is available as part of a special Battlefields of the American Revolution Collector's Set. The stamps, which were issued on April 16, 2025, are also available separately.
